Mostly because it really targets to hardware and services which are more complex and powerful than what you may find in an ADSL router — but still without the requirements of a full-stack server.

OnBoard is mainly tested on "Debian GNU/Linux":http://www.debian.org/, but tries to depend as little as possible upon distro-specific features. It's written in "Ruby":http://www.ruby-lang.org on top of "Sinatra":http://www.sinatrarb.com/, the classy web framework.
